Blue Night

I have been curious about mixed media products for a while - never owned anything more exiting than white gesso. So last week I gave myself a little present, actually a bigger one than a student budget would comfortably allow - but what the heck. The parcel arrived today, I unpacked it and momentarily felt overwhelmed taking it all in. Black gesso! Clear gesso! Crackle paste! 3D powder! These are all new to me. I think I need to feel myself around them slowly and try out one new medium at a time and really get to know it.

I have a love affair with trees at the moment (as some of you will know). Today I started my journey with the mediums with clear gesso and a new tree branch stencil. I used kraft cards that have some pre-printed text on them (cut from invitations).
When the gesso was dry I continued with blue acrylics, turq distress ink and some walnut stains. I partly rubbed away the color and let the background shine through under the clear-gessoed branches.

Blue Night 1-4.
The cards became a bit surrealist, a bit steampunk, a bit cyberpunk. (All photos click for bigger.)

Moon is a motherboard.
A giant wheel turns the sky in the night.
In the night flowers grow with the help of gears.

Entering all into:

Night 101. (Center text strip reads: tear here and select your favorite.)
Here I used a couple taken from a magazine. It has a somewhat creepy appearance, but very fitting for my steampunk-cyberpunk-nighttime theme.
I am entering this card into:
SOSS: #53 Mixed Media

Thanks for looking!
