Vintage Garden

There's a new challenge blog on the block - Anything But Cute. How happy was I to find it! It's their first challenge, themed Vintage Garden, It has to be vintage, but it cannot be cute. For me this is quite a conundrum as I feel anything vintage is automatically cute. But perhaps not?

Hopefully this works. On the surface it may appear sweet, but it has some sinister traits. I made two atc cards.
Little Ella, why are you mowing your lawn all by yourself, watch out!

Vintage Garden 1. (Ella)

Mommy thinks that Baby William will be guarded by their trusty Bello. Oh no, not so!
Vintage Garden 2.  (Little William and Bello)

For the first one I used watercolor paper as background. I sprayed it with glimmer mist (Tattered Angels ) through a stencil, then stamped with a self carved background stamp with brown Stencil Gel. I then stamped the flowers with Ranger Distress Ink (stamps by Stampendous, Stampington). Pictures are from a sheet by Tuscan Rose, aptly named "Vintage Garden". The fly is from my private collection.

The latter has background from a cereal package that has been sanded down, then smeared and painted with several different shades of gel paints and acrylics. Stamping and pictures as above.

This was a fun challenge. Be sure to watch out for their monthly cues.

  1. Oh Alice! This is a fun post and I love that the ATCs are innocent at first glance but then menacing at second glance! Wonderful design and LO! Your stenciling is awesome, plus you make your own stamps! What! That is so cool! Awesome sauce!

  3. Hi Alice, thanks so much for your lovely comment over at mine... I've been having a lovely time browsing around your recent posts, and really enjoying your work. I love the quirky sense of humour and wonderful use of vintage images. It would be lovely to sign up as a follower, but I see you don't have those options... Ah well, I'll just have to try to remember to drop by!

    1. Thanks Alison, such a nice comment.
How would I go about giving that option? I haven't been trying to restrict anything, I just don't know how.

  5. Alice, I love your take on Vintage Gardens in these artful ATC's you have made! You have included so many elements in such a small space, and that really impresses me!

I've glanced Alison's and Pamellia's comments, and see your replies about wanting to add the follower's gadget. I was in the same situation for most of my short blogging life...I just don't know my way around blog world. So here is my chance to help someone! Yippee! Go to your design page and on the left click Layout". To the right of the page that opens, click on "Add a gadget". Another page opens, with a list on the left. Click on "More gadgets". At the bottom of the list that opens next is "Followers". Click on that, and proceed to add your new gadget! If I can do it, YOU can do it!
