Tea Bag Wisdom

 For ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) anything is game. So *of course* I collect stuff that I think I can use on these small 2.5" by 3.5" gems. Tea bags or tea bag envelopes have text and peppy saying these days. Of course I have some of them put by.

I started the background with acrylics, first by swiping with a credit card, then through a stencil. The tea bag wisdom really dictated the imagery.

A collection of fish

 This set of ATC cards was created using a cereal box as substrate, in fact you can still see a bit of the bar code behind one fish.  I lightly sanded the background so it takes color better. 

 

After painting the background with acrylics I for the fish and applied different colors. Then I removed the stencil and stamped the fish with black ink and heat embossed them with Psychedelic transparent emboss powder.

It makes the fish glitter and glimmer. Lastly I applied "waves" through a (flower!) stencil, stamped a bit of background noise and applied the collector numbers.

Was sagt der Glückkeks?

This ATC was made to reflect the colors in the current ATC challenge. I used a gelli printed paper for the background and selected suitably colored images from my stash, but keeping in mind that it had to make at least some sense. I hope it does!

Gingham ladies

I was inspired by a couple of challenges and that lead to the creation of these ladies. Firstly 'summer gingham' and secondly 'use your stash'. I have an extensive stash and remembered a gingham envelope that I had tucked away too long ago.

Gingham combines beautifully with dots, so I used a dotted paper as well.

 Lastly came the ladies - I had picked them up from a broschure last summer.  They had  a bit of an attitude so I used some text bits that had been in my stash forever.

Lastly I drew a bold red outline around the images.

The Explorer or the Explored?

 With insects you never know. These guys look like they would be specimens from a collectors exhibition.

When really, they are live insects just happening to wander and explore some empty pages. I bet they are having the adventure of their lives.

The backgrounds are a complex medley that involved stamping, heat embossing, watercolors and some sewing around the edges.

The frame and number sign were stamped. The number is a piece of tape measure, the text a TH rub-on and the insect that is busy exploring is a clear sticker by Panduro, bought on a visit to Stockholm two summers ago when traveling was still allowed.

Summery watercolors

 Can fish be opinionated and even snarky? I decided that they can - and made these. Of course, one would have been two little to show just how mean fish can be when no one is listening.

 I used Brusho, the dry watercolor, for the backgrounds. I love the effect that granules of color can achieve, it's always so unexpected. I used Prussian blue, green and teal.

Then I stamped the fish with permanent black ink onto semi-glossy magazine picture. I love that technique, the results are always intriguing, there's depth and variation within the image.

Wild but cute

 For some reason seals look incredibly cute. especially this Saimaa Ringed Seal (links to Wikipedia in English, auf Deutsch). It has been in great trouble in the last century or so, fishermen claiming it's robbing them of their fish, and the seals themselves persihing through pollution. It's numbers are slowly picking up.

This little card is a reminder to keep moving forward - especially in the crafting world. It's always worth trying out new ideas, methods and imagery and stepping out of your comfort zone.

That's why I like blog challenges... Would I have made this card otherwise? - I doubt it.

The background was done with watercolor over clear embossed 'crumbs / Streusel' - I dabbed the substrate with a Versamark pen here and there and threw clear embossing powder at it. Then I used Brusho watercolor pigments. Stamps are by Art Journey and Stampers Anonymous. Thank you for looking!

Mini challenge

 Taking part in More than Words mini challenge June. The word 'idol' has to appear on the atc.

 

In case you're wondering... Frida (or her lookalike) has been heavily photoshopped for luminosity. She was part of a digitally made collage that was printed and which I received as happy mail not long ago. I took it apart, added TimHoltz rose themed paper to the background, a stamped bird, a red rose for her head (in the collage there were black roses and skulls) and lastly the golden glittery glue dots for earrings.

Kaksoiskortti

OKTK-haasteen kierroksella 63 pyydetään tekemään ATC-kortti, jossa kaksi korttia on laitettu päällekkäin ikäänkuin kirjaksi.

Tältä omani näyttää päällepäin.

Sisällä on 'tarina' joka löyhästi liittyy kannen 'tapahtumiin'.

Kun kortin taittaa selkäpuolelta auki näkee, että takana on 'saranoina' washi-teippiä. Kortin sisäpuolella taustapaperit pitävät huolen siitä, että kortit pysyvät kiinni toisissaan.

Pitsiä ja metallia

KKvintagehaasteessa on nyt aiheena Pitsiä ja metallia. Molempia tulee siis olla samassa kortissa.

Pitsin värjäsin osittain ruskeaksi kastamalla sen vesiväriin. Metalli on kortin ympäri kiedottua hopealankaa ja pronssinvärisiä kuulia jotka liimasin pitsin ja kirjoitusleikkeen reunamille.

This card was made using the 'opposites' of lace and metal. Metal is silver string and also the micro beads in bronze.

JCC 50

Tänään inspiroiduin Jehkottaren haasteesta. Valitsin bingorivin puuleike muotona-harmaa-sanaleike, lähinnä koska se oli minulle todellinen haaste. Minulla on puuleikkeitä, mutten oikein osaa käyttää niitä, samoin sanaleikkeitä (ja sitten aina kumminkin leikkelen sanat vanhoista kirjoista). Ja harmaakin väri, hmmm.

Omistan kaksi harmaata akryylimaalia, hiukan sinivoittoisen Paynes Gray'n ja ruman perusvaalean. Lisäksi valitsin pyöreät puuleikkeet ja tummanharmaata hilettä. Suunnittelin nimittäin alkuun tekeväni harmaansateisen joulun ja nämä pyöreät muodot olisi olleet katukaivojen kansia.

Sekoitin molempia harmaita yhteen. Taustapahvini olivat ruskeita, joten se vaikutti lopputulokseen. Molempia oli hiukan leimattu etukäteen, nämä siis olivat kauan laatikossa pyörineitä hylkiöitä joita en tietenkään raatsinut ikinä heittää pois.

Puukuvioihin ripottelin lopuksi tummia hileitä ja kiinnitin ne mod podgella.

Kuviot ja tekstileikkeet pääsivät vihdoin käyttöön nekin. Täytyy sanoa, että harmaa on oikein elegantti ja hienostuneesti surullinen väri joka tuo tunnelmaa. Kiitos haasteesta!

Talvisia tarinoita / Winter stories

One fine day the snow came. It was a light snow, the snow crystals floated gracefully down. Soon the ground was covered, but the snowfall went on.
- Oh, snow for Christmas! cried the children.
- I rather feel like taking a ride. Let's go and have a fun trip in the snow, said Papa. Everybody rushed to the car, barely remembering their warm clothes. They rode along the road, snow covering their tracks.

Nobody noticed that Lily had stayed behind. If everybody else was leaving, great. Finally she could try out the pink scooter. She pushed it out to the driveway, but couldn't get it to start. She pushed it a bit further, stopped under a tree and thought: It's just me and my scooter. How lovely.
The snowflakes were floating down, the snow crystals landed on her face and melted, they landed on her hat and stayed there. It was quiet, it was snowing. It was Christmas.

Miehet työnsä ääressä

KKvintagehaasteen aihe on tällä kertaa 'työkaluja'.

Vaikeimmaksi osottautui pohjan teko. Haaveilin kauniista haaleanvärisestä vintagetaustasta, mutta kun vahingossa suihkaisin okrankeltaista vaaleaman vihreän asemasta tarvitsi kortti lisää väriä. Lopulta viininpunainen tuntui olevan ainoa mikä sopi.

Ja onhan tämä aika dramattinen näin. Miehethän eivät yhtään näytä siltä että käsillä oleva työ sopisi heille, puheista huolimatta.

ATC backgrounds

OKTK:n joulukuun haasteessa pyydetään tekemään itse tausta ja käyttämään siinä sapluunaa. Joskus olisi kiva kokeilla tehdä itse sapluuna, mutta näissä taustoissa käytin ostettua sapluunaa.

Pohjalla on jostain kirjasta repimiäni paloja. Kun liima oli kuivaa, laitoin sapluunan läpi valkoista gessoa. Sen kuivuttua leimailin hiukan lisää tekstiä taustalle ja ripotin sitten päälle hauhemaisia Brusho-värejä. Kun niitä suihkii vedellä lähtevät värihiukkaset sulamaan ja tulos on aina yhtä arvaamaton.

Osallistun näillä OKTK:n haasteeseen, molemmat kortit lähtevät vaihtoon.

Eläimellistä menoa

KK-vintageblogissa ilmestyneessä haasteessa pyydetään keksimään 'eläimellistä menoa'. Tein inspiraatioksi kaksi atc-korttia.

Niissä seikkailee orava ja metsäsika eli villikarju. Se onkin aika kauhean näköinen. Sen silmät ei mielestäni erottuneet kunnolla, niinpä maalasin niiden ympärille valkoiset renkaat. Hui.

Rypistettyä

KKvintagehaasteessa pyydetään tällä kertaa 'jotain rypistettyä'.
Rypistin palan kaavapaperia ja liimasin sen sellaisena korttiin. Päälle tulikin paljon tavaraa, mutta tässä lähikuva rypyistä:
