syksyn haikeutta / it's fall

Syksyn väreissä on vaikea tehdä iloisia kortteja. Niinpä kun mietin mitä tekisi KKvintagehaasteeseen oli yksi kriteerini, että lause siinä pitää olla. Ruskea ja lehdet sopivat syksyn teemaan, ja kuin itsestään valikoitui lauseita, joissa on hieman - haikeutta? Epämääräistä kitkaa?

Tämä olisi voinut olla toisinkin päin, ja ensi alkuun olikin: Rakastan sinua - mutta se ei käy. Nyt käännettynä toisin päin on merkitys aivan toinen:

Lehdet on stanssattuja. Leimasin niiden päälle kolmella mustetyynyllä (vihreä, punaruskea ja oranssi) ja suihkin päälle sekä ruskeaa että kullanväristä mistiä.  Pohja on tehty hiekkapaperilla käsiteltyyn pahviin, jossa oli vihreää kirjoitusta. Liimasin päälle muutaman palan tekstiä ja sottasin ruskealla geelivärillä. Painelin märkään väriin leimasimella lehtiä. Lopuksi ripottelin vihreää ja turkoosia vesiväriä isoiksi tipoiksi pohjalle ja suihkin kultamistiä päälle.
Toivottavasti inspiroiduit haasteeseen - ota kolme vihjettä ruudukosta. Lisää niihin muitakin elementtejä, käytä mielikuvitusta ja  rakenna sanojen ympärille aivan oma maailmasi!

A set of small mixed media works using inks, mists, die cuts, old photos, found words,  watercolor and gel paint.

Gel paint gives a nice translucent background. I stamped into it while it was still wet creating shadow prints of leaves and branches. Then I sprinkled it with some blue and turq watercolor and gold mist.

Let's not quarrel.

I love fall coloring. Leaves are starting to turn where I live - the tips of trees are yellow, red or  orange while the rest of the tree is still green.

Life is full of disappointments.

For my leaves I stamped them with mahagony, green and orange stamp pads, then sprayed brown and gold mist over it. This made the colors run into each other and blend nicely.

Please don't be mad with me anymore, darling.

The words are very fitting for fall I think. There is a wistfulness - whereas summer words would be happy. It's funny how the right words just pop when you leaf through a book. Have you tried?

Deer Dreamtime / uneksivat peurat

Here's a pair of deer I made for Mix-it-Monthly. I was inspired by the prompt: white paint, deer and text from a song. Seemingly things that wouldn't normally go together.

Tänään muutama uneksiva peura. Sarvissaan ne kantavat tähtipölyä (oikeasti mica-hiutaleita) ja unenomaisissa kuplissa on muutama voimistuttava sananen (oikeasti Talking Headsin laulusta otettu). Tausta on vaihdossa Silkulta saatu, taivaalliset värit mutta etsi pitkään paikkaansa, koska en halunnut peittää liikaa. Taustaan olen lisännyt valkoisia tiploja, peurat ovat tulosteita jotka olen värittänyt hennonsinisellä ja vaaleanpunaisella ihan unimaailman tyyliin.

Hauskaa vappua sinne kauas! Täällähän ei karnevaalivappua tunneta, vaan vappu on Työn Päivä, täynnä raskaita kulkueita ja poliittisia puheita. Yliopistoltakin saatiin vapaa viikonloppu - ei ainuttakaan tutkielmaa kirjoitettavana :-)

August Flowers

How I wish that I would have all the crafting supplies at my fingertips that I could ever wish for! Don't you?  I imagine that being a lot of fun.
But then again, it might just be a pain to remember everything you have and look for them.

So I decided to see how precious little I could get away with. Just for fun, for a challenge. Work with a kind of "make-do" attitude.

First I sanded some cardstock and painted this with "linen" acrylic. Then I chose my products: one stencil, three colors and some small colored scraps in those colors. I took two geometric stamps (circles, chevron) and a book page. (And then I felt like I had much too much product already. Where did the downsizing go??)
And finally I chose three challenges.
Let's see.

I stamped the backgrounds through the punchinella in pink and yellow, then added stamping with green ink and the chevron stamp.

Bloom where you are planted

Next I took the circles stamp (Rubberdance Art) and the book page, stamped all sizes, then repeated this onto some yellow and pink scraps. I cut them out and set aside.

Create the world you want to see

Using the chevron stamp and green ink I stamped onto the green paper, then drew freehand stems and leaves and cut them out.
I assembled my cards, and as a finishing touch added some sentiments or affirmations.

Happy Couples

Mix-it-Monthly has an interesting theme this month, Happy Couples. Apart from the obvious happy couples-couples I wanted to explore what other pairings there might be.

This started with the sinister idea of having the girls drown to meet their fate, but no, the girls refused to drown and instead met their mate...
