Mellow

Fall brings out the saturated colors: yellows, oranges and browns and inky blue night skies.

I made a group of mixed media atc's. They all started as cereal boxes which were cut to size and sandpapered. The first one received butterfly and swirl diecuts. Then I painted everything over with light acrylic and treated with stamping, stenciling and so forth.

The others were just stenciled and then treated like the first, with a focal image on separate paper, stamped with tiny text, post mark and swirls, microbeads and a piece of thread. The text comes from 7 Dots Studios.

Critters

I decided to play with my paints and make something mixed media.
The substrate is a piece of packaging cardboard. I always use the printed side after I have taken a piece of sandpaper to it. The paint just sticks better if the surface is not too slick.

I dabbed on a lot of brown paint, smeared it with a palette knife and while it was still wet, took a rubber stamp and printed onto the paint with no color. When the stamp came off so did most of the paint - leaving me with a nice impression.

The pictures of a bee and a bird's nest with eggs are vintage ( via 7dots stdio), the dragonfly is a print on shiny plastic.

Kukkaloistoa / Spring in bloom

Koukussa Kortteihin-vintagehaaste avautuu tänään ja aiheena on Kukkaloistoa. Kun valon määrä on lisääntynyt on ihan mahtavaa taas puuhailla kirkkailla väreillä!

Tämä on todella monikerroksinen: pohjalla akryylivärejä, sitten stanssattu kukkaboordi, jonka päälle laitoin vielä gessolla valkoisia tipluja.

Sitten tulivat kukat: kehäkukkien siemenpussista leikatut kuvat ja Wycinankan kartonkileike. Sekä vähän ompelulankaa... Ihan tulee keväinen olo!

Spring is here - I feel a craving for color. For the background I combined two bright colors with a coimbing effect, added some gesso sprinkles through a stencil, then added all kinds of things on top, like fussy cut flowers from seed packets and some sewing thread.

OKTK #34 / Winter blue

OKTK:n atc-vaihto pyörähtää taas käyntiin. Inspiraatiotaulu on tällainen:

Minä näin inspiraatiotaulussa vuoret ja jäisen kimmellyksen. Ne toteutin krakeluurimassan päälle ripotelluilla hohtavilla hiutaleilla. Tunnelmana sain kiinni 'itsensä parantamisesta', tuosta merkillisestä vanhoissa tyttökirjoissa kummittelevasta sanaparista. 

Kortin mies ei ole vielä ihan niin pitkällä että uskaltaisi kohdata itsensä (oletattavasti kyseessä on kuitenkin henkinen kohtaaminen?),

sen sijaan naisen olemuksesta uhkuu seesteisyys - hän on mitä varmimmin sinut itsensä kanssa. Tämä kortti lähtee vaihtoon.

I was inspired by ice and sky and mountains and created a blue card. 'All the beautiful stars in the sky'. The white cracelee has a glitter flakes applied to it while it was still wet. When it dried they adhered. So sorry you can't see it in the pictures, it was so hard to photograph. But it glitters like real snow.
