Pink for the holidays

Today's inspiration came from several challenges. I like to combine them, I find all those ideas, and in a way, restrictions, make my brain work harder.

I started by pulling out scrap papers, two sets of dies and a background made with scrap strips. I managed to use up all my off-cuts back in august. (But have managed to accrue several new once since then.)

 

 The bird die by Papertrey Ink is a new purchase. It is small, but really mighty. I can't believe how everything gets layered - head, breast, wing, beak, eye, feet - yet the die package is so compact it fits into a wallet.

As one of the challenges asked for pink I went to town with it: pink snowflakes, a pink bird and pink shaker filler material.

Recycled goodies

I decided to tackle my pile of paint chips again. They are great to have for color variety, but too much is too much. 

There is a die set that I have been coveting for two years now, "Boho vases" by Altenew. (Google it if interested.) Today I had the brilliant idea of trying to make my lantern dies work for the purpose. I don't used them nearly enough. (Lastly used them here.)

 

So I selected six paint chips, three for vases and the other three for their insides, since the lantern have holes which need to be covered. I also used some green chips and a piece of scrap for the leaves. I die cut the lanterns and just snipped the tops and bottoms away.

To ground the vases I took off cut strips from my strip stash. Then I arranged the vases and greenery on top. The branches were looking rather bare, but I found some pink die cuts that I had stashed away.

All in all, a very satisfying session. I think I am cured from my obsession with that Vases die set, as I could replicate the look with dies I already own.

Woven

 For a while now I have been keeping all my off cuts that come from trimming card bases or papers. Today seemed like a good time to use up all those snippets and scraps. I created a woven background that I inserted into a round opening.

Two black die cuts form the backdrop for the vividly colored rose, which was embossed with clear embossing powder before I colored it in.
