Tea Bag Wisdom

 For ATC's (Artist Trading Cards) anything is game. So *of course* I collect stuff that I think I can use on these small 2.5" by 3.5" gems. Tea bags or tea bag envelopes have text and peppy saying these days. Of course I have some of them put by.

I started the background with acrylics, first by swiping with a credit card, then through a stencil. The tea bag wisdom really dictated the imagery.

A collection of fish

 This set of ATC cards was created using a cereal box as substrate, in fact you can still see a bit of the bar code behind one fish.  I lightly sanded the background so it takes color better. 

 

After painting the background with acrylics I for the fish and applied different colors. Then I removed the stencil and stamped the fish with black ink and heat embossed them with Psychedelic transparent emboss powder.

It makes the fish glitter and glimmer. Lastly I applied "waves" through a (flower!) stencil, stamped a bit of background noise and applied the collector numbers.

This ATC was made to reflect the colors in the current ATC challenge. I used a gelli printed paper for the background and selected suitably colored images from my stash, but keeping in mind that it had to make at least some sense. I hope it does!

Love love love

... all you need is love. With Valentine's around the corner no wonder the world is going all pink and red! No exception here.
I am thinking love, but not romantic love, but love in the family, between parents and children and between siblings (if only a thin layer masquerading sibling rivalry).

Sydämellistä on teema KK-haasteessa. En ottanut sitä niin kirjaimellisesti, että olisin pannut sydämiä - mielestäni rakkaus lähtee sydämestä ja korttini kuvaavat rakkautta, vanhempien ja lapsien ja sisarusten välistä (vaikka sisaruksilta saattaakin löytyä sisaruuskateutta kun pintaa raapaisee) - mutta 'kuvanottohetkellä' oli vallitseva tunne rakkaus.

Background is a black and white coloring book page which I treated with paints, mists, printed tissue and washi tape.

Muutosten tuulia / I feel so centered

Kun minua pyydettiin OKTK-haasteen DT:n jäseneksi seuraavaksi puolivuotiskaudeksi niin ilolla suostuin. Olen varmaan jo useammin hehkuttanut kuinka paljon tykkäänkään haasteista. Osallistun niihin mielelläni ja toivon, että inspiraatioksi luomat korttini innostavat muitakin osallistumaan. Sillä eihän voi muuta kuin voittaa! Omat pelkonsa, esimerkiksi. Omat luomistuskansa. Kun-se-hirviö-ei-tahdokaan-onnistua! Kun siitä-ei-tullut-sellaista-kuin-halusin! No vähätkö siitä. Pääasia on kokeilla.
Jollet tunne OKTK-haastetta vielä, niin siinä osallistutaan ja samalla vaihdetaan. Tämä kuvakooste oli inspiraationa:

 ja tällaiset kortit siitä sain aikaiseksi. Isosiipinen tyttö osallistuu vaihtoon.

Kuvakoosteessa mieltäni kiinnitti ennenkaikkea seesteisen kaunis kuva oikeassa yläkulmassa. Tein pohjat kahdella kutakuinkin hempeällä värillä, ruusunpunaisella ja oljenkeltaisella, etenkin kun kuvakoosteesta löytyy alavasemmalla kauniita ruusunpuunaisia sävyjä:

Tyttöjen siivet leimasin kenkälaatikosta talteen otetun ruskean silkkipaperin päälle. Ne tuovat yhtymäkohtaa kuvakoosteen oikeasta alareunasta löytyvään kukkaan.

New year - new ideas, new everything. These cards have three things that are new to me: the sponging of color - shiny fashionable red gold - elements that have not been glued down.

I made the backgrounds with distress inks and my brand new sponge tool and spray as shown in the pictures, then added some gentle stamping on the background. The girls have wings - this tiny mite has indeed huge wings! I stamped my butterfly stamps onto brown craft tissue that I had salvaged from a shoe box. The mood board above was used for color inspiration. It shows some serene colors - I hope these make you feel as centered as I feel now.

Perhoskesä / Butterflies

This time I made a pair of cards the 'old-fashioned' way - it goes light on mixed media. I used a lot of different papers.

Backgrounds were built up with Japan paper, tapes, and a book page. I added hand drawn inked flowers and added some caviar beads to the butterfly.

Osallistun näillä OKTK #18 haasteeseen, jossa tehdään ja vaihdetaan kaksi kesäistä korttia. Näissä on kerroksittain erilaisia papereita, japaninpaperia, punaista teippiä ja painettua maalarinteippiä. Lisäsin maalattuja ja piirrettyjä kukkia ja stanssatun perhosen, jonka koristelin vielä mikrohelmillä. Saa kesä tulla!

A lonely servant / Yksinäinen palvelijatar

Try it on Tuesday has a challenge this week: Layers. After trying my hand in layers last week with the flower card I now tried how many layers I could pack onto an ATC card without it getting too thick. Thickness is no merit here - it gets cumbersome to mail.

So I used thin layers and lots of blue (I love blue):

I have found lovely vintage underwear buttons on local flea markets, see above. Some are normal size, some are tiny. I wonder what could they have been used for? Baby garments? Dainty ladies undies? People must have had smaller fingers, I know I couldn't button it up.

October is sneakily here. Rain and golden sunshine, crisp mornings and early sunsets. I really like this time of year.

Monen viikon blogihiljaisuus on nyt vissin ohi, vaikka päivitykset eivät varmasti jatku yhtä runsaina kuin kesällä. Lähdin opiskelemaan aikuisiällä, ja luennot kotitehtävineen vievät nyt enimmät mehut. En silti valita. Opiskelen historiaa, keskittyen keskiaikaan. Luentojen valinnan edessä olin kuin lapsi karkkikaupassa: kaupungit keskiajalla, keskiajan maalaisväestö, matkustaminen 1800-luvulla, työn historia, tilastotiedettä, arkistotiedettä... jee!
Minulle voi silti ehdottaa vaihtoa - postimaksu on sama kuin ykkösluokka kotimaassa. Mieluiten vaikka sellainen vaihto, jossa tehdään kortteja vastaanottajalle, valmiit kortit kun ei mahtuneet mukaan.

Ylläoleva kortti on tehty lokakuun tunnelmissa. Sateet ja kultaisen auringon päivät vuorottelevat, iltahämärä tulee aikaisemmin ja aamut myöhemmin. Jotenkin tämä on vuoden parasta aikaa.

Onni itkettää / Happiness makes you cry

... ei aina, mutta ainakin kuvamme naista:

Does happiness make you weep? Our heroine seems to get very misty eyed when she sees a beautiful bird. She is happy to be alive, breathe in the fresh air and experience all the beauty - and she begins to weep.

Tein nämä P*skiksen haasteeseen, bingorivillä vaaleanpunainen - eläin - vihreä (vihreän ilmeisesti editoin pois tästä alemmasta naisen kuvasta, ylemmässä se näkyy).
"Kaksi onnellista" on soinut taustalla, vaikkakaan nämä hahmot eivät ole ihan samat kuin mistä laulussa kerrotaan. (Mutta mistä löytää raketin kuva!?) Näillä siis tällä kertaa mukana.
